RALPH LAUREN’S NEW RESTAURANT, THE POLO BAR IN NEW YORK CITY…

2015polo_bar

I wanted to start the sixth month of the year with my being a food critic for all the restaurants that we visit. I know, I should have started this at the beginning of the year. Time goes so fast sometimes, that before we know it, the year is over. So here is my first foodie of the year. And what better way than to start with this one:

Just this past Monday, I had the honor of meeting Ralph Lauren at his new restaurant, The Polo Bar in New York City. It was a night that will never be forgotten. Yes, you heard me right. We met The Man, Ralph Lauren! (In case you don’t know, Ralph Lauren is an American clothing designer and is known all over the world for his classic fashion designs).  I was stunned and speechless. And thankfully, I had my Ralph Lauren floral dress on too. There are no photographs to show because it’s highly disrespectful to take photographs with an iconic designer. What I have is the memory. We couldn’t stop talking about it. It was part of our conversation for days.

This exclusive eatery, by reservation only, is his first New York City restaurant. Zagat rated, “A Midtown American is replete with private-club touches, including a fireplace and equestrian-themed art. In the dining room, the menu highlights classic fare, while an upstairs bar offers craft beers, cocktails and snacks.”

We dined on their classic cheeseburger with bacon, broccolini and a chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream sundae for dessert. We loved every bite of it. The food was an A+ and the service was even better.

Reservations are hard to get. They are only open for dinner and once you’re in, you’ll feel part of an exclusive club.

Just lovely.

2015 MET GALA…THE OSCARS OF FASHION.

TONIGHT is the biggest Fashion event of the year!

The Met Gala, formally called the Costume Institute Gala and also known as the MetBall, is an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City. It marks the grand opening of the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit.

This year’s theme is  “China: Through the Looking Glass” .  Western eyes have drawn inspiration from “exotic” Asian images since the seventeenth century.”

I’m very excited to see all the dresses that the celebrities are wearing.  Oscar de la Renta, Balenciaga, Ralph Lauren, Zac Posen, Ines di Santo. The list goes on and on. The one thing we won’t be seeing this year is the selfie. Yes, no selfies are to be taken. All cell phones and social media are to be left at the door. The Metropolitan Museum of Art sent out a notice to guests stating that neither picture-taking nor social media will be permitted inside the annual event. As we know, Anna Wintour isn’t the hugest fan of the selfie. With the gala under her reign, this could be her way of wielding power against the social media trend she refuses to follow.

Tonight is going to be just lovely.

The First Sign Of Spring…

Spring Joe and Rose

There it is. Between the Winter branches is the adorable Snowdrop flower. Here in the NorthEast, Spring is finally here. We had a dreadful Winter and a delayed Spring. The weather is finally warming up and everyone seems to be excited for the better weather.

I love Spring. It’s a time to renew, refresh and rejuvenate. Just lovely.

Me VS. Kim…Who Wore It Better?

me.vs.kim

Me vs. Kim Kardashian. Who Wore It Better? Yes, they are different dresses. Yes, she was pregnant at the time. However, it’s the same idea of being covered in a floral print. We both had the same idea. I love flowers and I love my dress. I love her dress too.

When we look at fashion, we need to not look only at the dress but everything that is accessorized with it. The hair, make-up, shoes, and jewelry  can make all the difference.

So, Who Wore It Better? I know my pick (wink, wink).

A HARSH WINTER NEEDS BURLAP…

Sagaponak burlap Joe and Rose2 1.17.15
The Northeast had one of the worst Winters on record.  Every few days there was a snow storm, an ice storm or below average temperatures.  With Global Climate change, the Winter season, and even the Summer season, have been getting worse each year.

We need to protect our environment in every way we can. Being GREEN with less chemicals, paper products and even the landscaping. We need to protect our trees and bushes. I love trees. Burlap can easily protect against harsh winds and snow.  I love seeing this while I’m out on the East End of Long Island.  The homeowners really do care about their property. And with that the environment.

Isn’t this lovely?

THE BEAUTY OF MAKEUP…

Eyebrows1

It’s amazing to me how makeup can transform your natural features. I wear a lot of eye makeup to enhance my hazel eye color. I wear pencil eye liner (two different colors), liquid eye liner, eye shadow (three different shades) and mascara. Let’s not forget the eyebrow. I was recently introduced to the “new eyebrow”. New to me anyway. It’s a dip brow and then I comb it in. It gives my boring thin eyebrows more fullness. I love it! In contrast, wearing little makeup is beautiful as well. But, I kind of like the whole smokey eye look. I even wear this look during the day. That’s me.

Isn’t it lovely?

Love, Rose

P.S. This post was written at the local Starbucks during the intense Nor’Easter that blanketed Long Island. How much fun it was to see all this snow. I’m a kid at heart. Always.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day 2015

Monday, January 19th 2015 is Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. It is a day set aside to remember and reflect upon the life and times of the slain civil rights leader. Considering what a volatile year 2014 was regarding race relations in the United States, MLK Day 2015 holds perhaps even more significance than previous MLK Days. Remember to take some time out to do some soul searching and, above all, be kind to others, as we are all in this together. Rest assured, Dr. King would have wanted it this way.

BlOOMING FLOWERS…AND LOVE.

george-clooney wedding-4-435

Just the other day, I created this blog draft with the headline of Blooming Flowers.  I was set to write about a beautiful bouquet of flowers I had received. There were two bouquets of blooming lilies that transfixed me every day just by watching bloom. But, after watching the 72nd Golden Globes Award on NBC last night, and with George Clooney’s speech, it came to me that blooming flowers are, in essence, Love. Seeing George Clooney, at age 53, finally find love is a wonderful thing. With his wife, Amal, in the audience, she was clearly smitten when he looked to her and said:

“Listen, it’s humbling to find somebody to love, especially when you’ve been waiting your whole life, especially when your whole life is 53 years. “Amal, whatever alchemy brought us together, I couldn’t be more proud to be your husband.”

That is a blooming flower. That, is Love. Love, blooming, growing and ever so sweet. To have love in our lives is the greatest gift of all.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2015…

Another year has gone by with so many memories that were made. As we look ahead to another New Year, let’s remember those we’ve met and those who touched our lives.

Please have a happy, healthy and, of course, a lovely New Year.
